Is crochet hard to learn?
Not really. Most people can make a chain and single crochet in an afternoon. Start with the Learn page, then try the dishcloth or coaster.
What should a beginner make first?
A dishcloth, coaster or simple scarf. They use one or two stitches and forgive uneven tension.
Are the patterns really free?
Yes. All patterns on this site are free for personal use. You may make and sell finished items in small quantities if you credit The Maroon Yarn, but please do not copy or resell the written patterns.
Can I print a pattern?
Yes. Use the print button on each pattern page. Navigation is hidden in the print view.
Why are my sizes different from the pattern?
Everyone's tension is different. Use the gauge helper on the Tools page and check the yarn label.
Do you sell anything?
No. This website currently offers free information and patterns only.
